PART 1

So you’ve wanted to make money by writing articles for blogs and online magazines but have no clue how to write work that will wow the editors. Maybe you took a look at Writemymoney’s weekly newsletter and your mouth watered at some of the amounts of money being offered for work that is chosen for publishing…

Well, you don’t have to scratch your head in confusion any longer! I’m writing this post just for you.

Rule number one is…and this one may just blow your mind…
It’s not about you!
Shocking, I know. Really though, what you write really is not for you. You write for the reader. You have got to prioritize the reader’s wants and needs over yourself when you write.

You should make your aim to write articles that are either going to give helpful information, tips that your readers are going to find interesting, or share insights that they need right in that moment in time. Your article could also be informative, or it could include revolutionary and transformational insights.
Self expression is a wonderful thing, but it doesn’t always pay the bills…sorry, not sorry to be the one to break this to you…

Readers want to read an article that is written well. This is the main thing. If you go overboard with expressing yourself freely, you may actually put them off. So keep in mind who your target audience is and be guided accordingly as you write.

When you write, you may want to prioritize a million and one ways to get through to your readership, but did you know that readers really only have three questions when they pick up your article?
What is in this article for me?
Why should I read this?
Will this impact my life in any way?

Rule number 2 is… Research your market!
Check the magazines and blogs that you are interested in writing for. Look at their analytics to figure out what their target demographic is. This will help you to write in a more targeted way instead of just shooting in the dark.

Rule number 3 is…Offer the editors something fresh and new!
Believe me when I say that these editors have probably seen a LOT of articles. One of the reasons why research is so important is that when you see what they have published before, you can then find different angles to approach the topic. You may even find a modern innovation to write about that they may be into.

Rule number 4 is…Get your title right!
Your title holds the power to draw people in or to push them away. Finding the right title may just be more important than the content of the article itself! Why do I say that? What is the point in having the best article in the history of ever…that nobody reads because they are put off by it’s title???
Always have a title in mind as you write your article. This helps you to stay on track. Your initial title may not be the one that you go with in the end, and that’s ok.
So how do you come up with a good title? The content of your article may provide you with the perfect title. It could even come from one of the pictures that you included. The best title is catchy, attention-grabbing and evocative. It may even bring a bit of mystery, ensuring that a person has to read more to find out all the details.
Stay tuned for part 2 to find out how to write an article that will always make bank and attract readers.
